Your body has been carrying a lot. Somatic therapy helps you notice it, settle it, and feel at home in yourself again.

Notice

Build awareness of sensations, breath, and tension with curiosity.

Settle

Learn grounding tools that help your nervous system calm down.

Reconnect

Develop a kinder, more trusting relationship with your body.

Your body is part of the story

LKG Psychotherapy & Coaching offers somatic therapy in Los Angeles and via secure telehealth throughout California, Texas, and Connecticut.

Understanding your experiences is important, but insight alone doesn’t always change how your body reacts. Stress and trauma can leave the nervous system stuck on high alert, or pulled into shutdown. Somatic therapy works gently with these patterns to widen your window of tolerance, the zone where you can feel your feelings and still think clearly.

Laudan Kermani Gish, LCSW, PMH-C, weaves somatic approaches into her work, particularly alongside EMDR, eating disorder treatment, and perinatal care, and members of our clinical team also bring body-based techniques to their practice.

HyperarousalAnxious, panicky, irritable, racing thoughts
Window of tolerancePresent, grounded, able to think and feel
HypoarousalNumb, foggy, shut down, disconnected
Somatic work helps you notice when you’re leaving your window, and return to it more easily.

Signs your nervous system may need support

  • You feel on edge, jumpy, or unable to relax
  • You go numb or “check out” when things get hard
  • Tension, a tight chest, or stomach upset show up with stress
  • Talk therapy helped you understand, but your body still reacts
  • Your relationship with food or your body feels strained
  • Pregnancy, birth, or postpartum left you feeling disconnected

Simple orienting and breathing practices help you feel steady and safe.

  3. Explore

At your pace, we gently notice sensations connected to stress or memories.

  4. Integrate

You leave with tools to practice at home, between sessions.

Questions about somatic therapy

Still wondering whether this approach is right for you? We’re happy to talk it through.

Email us
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. Somatic therapy focuses on what’s happening in your body now, so you can make progress without retelling painful stories. You stay in control of the pace and what you share.

How is this different from talk therapy?

Talk therapy works mainly through thoughts and conversation. Somatic therapy adds attention to physical sensations, breath, and movement, helping change happen at the level of the nervous system as well as the mind. Many clients combine both, along with approaches like ACT and CBT.

Can somatic therapy be done online?

Yes. Many grounding and awareness practices work well over secure video, and practicing at home can make them easier to use in daily life. Sessions are available online across California, Texas, and Connecticut, or in person at our Los Angeles–area offices.

What if I feel disconnected from my body?

That’s a common starting point. We begin slowly with small, manageable moments of noticing, so reconnecting feels safe rather than overwhelming.

Who will I work with?

Laudan Kermani Gish, LCSW, PMH-C, leads our somatic-informed work, and other members of our clinical team also integrate body-based techniques. Sessions are offered in English and Farsi.
